Three benefits of seasonal content strategies

Updated: Apr 28, 2021

With Christmas fast approaching, even the Scrooges among us are feeling some excitement at the prospect of some public holiday to spend precious time with friends and family. From the tear-jerker John Lewis Christmas advert to the blog we just read on our favourite website about a charity mission to feed the homeless at Christmas, seasonal content is capturing our attention.

Seasonal content is a key part of any content strategy. It is often more shareable than regular content, which boosts brand awareness and the season is already on an audience’s minds so it enters naturally into their lives and draws them in.

We’ve put together three ways to use the seasons to provide great hooks for your business’ content strategy:

Weather

With the seasons come the changing weather patterns and weather is a great way to use seasonality to hook your content onto. From heatwaves to snow, torrential rain to wind, try piggybacking these types of weather in your content. (Obviously weather patterns are unpredictable so weather related ideas work best for more up-to-the-minute content.)

Seasonal events

With the rising popularity of seasonal events such as Halloween and Valentine’s Day, these are probably the easiest hooks for content that captures attention. Popular seasonal events include: Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

Awareness Days / weeks

From Mental Health Awareness Week to International Coffee Day, there is an awareness day or week for most subjects today. These awareness days or weeks provide fantastic opportunities to create content that draws your audiences in. Visit: www.awarenessdays.com for a whole list.
